#004: Two Of The Six Writers Of Scary Movie



I am referring to Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, who market themselves as the title above in a bizarre attempt to win audiences over to their recent intelligence abortions, Date Movie and Epic Movie. First of all, being one of the people who wrote Scary Movie isn't much of an accomplishment. In fact, having seen Scary Movie, it's somewhat depressing to think that it took six human brains to simply make fun of the horror genre in a way that was both non-hilarious and anti-entertaining. However, this self-appointed title of theirs apparently has Hollywood chomping at the bit as they have been allowed to write and direct two of the worst comedies ever concocted. I'm hoping that their next movie will be Parody Movie, a flick all about shit films that make fun of much better, more original films. I'm sure it'll be hilarious, especially when the movie starts to parody itself and ends up imploding in a puff of sarcasm. Let's hope that, for the sake of cinema, it takes its writers with it. Otherwise I fear I will soon carry the title of 'One Of The Many Contributors To The Two Of The Six Writers Of Scary Movie's Bloody, Bloody Demise'.

Now, I'll admit, I liked Scary Movie, as well as Not Another Teen Movie. I even tolerated Scary Movie 2, to a degree. But after those, the shit went sour. It's tongue-in-cheek amusing if you're exposing all the cliched and cookie-cutter aspects of those genres to where it's light-hearted satire, it's another thing if you are just PRESENTING those aspects in what-they-this-is-humor-bad-dick-and-fart-joke comedy.

I've survived Scary Move 3, and even Date Movie (altho the only reason why I didn't fly into a homicidal rage and bash in my TV, my DVD player and the manager of Blockbuster's head upo viewing is because Alyson Hannigan was in it), but Lord knows I'll lobotomize myself with an egg beater before I see Epic Movie (which, now that I think about it, is probably what I'd need to do to sit through 1 1/2 hours of that crap)

scary movie was hilarious. all the other parodies that came afterward sucked. especially the scary movie sequels.

I couldn't agree more, i could try, but I would fail.

When I first saw "Two Of The Six Writers Of Scary Movie" on a movie poster (for date movie i believe), I thought it was just the marking dept/studio's decision to put it on there, to try and give the movie some credibility.

After the Wayans bros left after Scary movie 3, i knew it wouldn't be the same, no.3 was alright considering, no.4 was 'yeah ok'. But making date movie and epic movie is a crime against man(and woman)kind. Having said that, i'm sure with a low budget, lower grade (and paid) actors, they and the studio made a ton of money. So guess who's laughing now, well i suppose they are, but at least we can say we have a soul. :)

yeah, i don't like their humor. it never makes me laugh out loud and i find it to be rather obnoxious. you can listen to your posts now?? hm,

I hate all six of them. I just hope there is space in the bus I plan to fill with 'celebrities' to drive off a cliff.
